Derrick Harris (he/him, junior) is a student journalist and researcher who co-founded UNVEIL to highlight stories and perspectives often overlooked in school curricula. He has written for The Perennial, conducted research with Justice Vanguard—including credited work for the documentary Disrupting Dayton—and founded Backrow to Baseline: Beyond the Boxscore, a women’s sports blog showcasing student athletes. His work spans journalism, interviewing, social media storytelling, visual media, and public history, with a focus on amplifying underrepresented voices.
Derrick drew inspiration for UNVEIL from his research at Justice Vanguard, his work as a docent at the Los Altos History Museum, and experiences engaging with the public while working at Safeway and in a legal office. Alongside his co-founder, he created a student-led space where young people can question sources, understand how information is shaped, and engage with the media thoughtfully. Through UNVEIL, Derrick aims to foster curiosity, critical thinking, and active participation in how knowledge is created and shared.
